When You Feel Hurt and Lost

Some of you have been hurt and marked by the things of this world. Whether that was something someone said or did, it left a mark on what you believe about yourself. You might have even put the mark there yourself! Over time, these markings start piling on and you begin to feel like you are not valuable.

When your identity is not rooted in Christ, you open yourself up to be judged by the world and for THEM to tell you your worth. Spoiler alert: You will never be able to measure up to their standards. Their opinions, criticism, and words will weigh you down if you don’t have truth to stand on. You begin chasing their approval without even realizing it. That’s why it’s so important to lock your gaze on Christ.

Putting Your Identity in Christ

But Jesus says, come as you are. Come broken, so I can heal you. Come ashamed, because I offer peace and forgiveness. Jesus loves you. We are sinners, we are not enough, but Jesus is and He loves us regardless.

3 STEPS TO FIND YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST:

  1. Understand that culture doesn’t determine your worth.
  2. Find scriptures on what GOD says about you! Memorize it. Fix your eyes on what is true.
  3. Trust that God’s plan for YOU is good. Even when things don’t make sense, have faith that God has a plan and that is good.

When you spend time with your creator, God, the marks start fading away one by one because the things of this world don’t seem to matter anymore. The desires of your heart change and you only want what the Lord has for you. You start caring about the person that God has called you to be because you want to walk in the plan that He has for you! He didn’t create you just for you to fit in and be like everyone else. You were made with spacial gifts, talents and traits that are unique to you! You are God’s precious child.

Here are 5 scriptures to help remind you of what’s TRUE and how much God loves you!

  1. “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14
  2. “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
  3. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:10
  4. “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8
  5. “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it.” – Psalm 139:13-14

Teaching Your Children their Worth to God

If you haven’t read the book you are special by Max Lucado I encourage you to give it a read! It’s a children’s book that portrays the image of the love that our creator has for us! If you can teach them at a young age, that their worth is in God and not in the approval of others, they will get to grow up confident in the person God is calling them to be!
