HOW TO FIND TRUE FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION

The moment that I recovered there was an absolute knowledge that I was created for a purpose. So many times, people run from that purpose, through their addictions. And their addictions make them numb to that calling that they have on their life. So when they get sick and tired of being sick and tired, when it starts devouring their life, they understand that the path they’re on leads to destruction.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
-John 10:10

There is an absolute joy in my life. I don’t wake up every morning and say, “Today, I can’t do it. I can’t do meth. I can’t drink today, and I shouldn’t take any pills…” I don’t think about those things unless I’m counseling somebody who needs to hear truth. I don’t have to weigh those things or struggle with those thoughts because I have been set free.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
-John 8:36

I have been free for 21 years. Not just clean, not just sober, but free. There is hope beyond the addiction.

That’s why we say when we ask our families, “Do you do you want to be a parent?” Not, “Do you want your kids back?”

That’s why we say, “Do you want to have life abundant?” Not, “Do you want to survive?”

Can you go to AA? Sure. Can you go to NA? Sure. They are secular programs. Sometimes people need the fog to lift because they’re not going to walk into the walls of a church.

But true freedom can only be found in Jesus.

At Finding the Family we teach Godly principles, and it comes straight from the Word. It’s all about faith. And if it’s not about faith, then the path that we take them down doesn’t make a lot of sense except for rules. But if they put their faith in Jesus Christ, we have seen nothing but success when it is true faith in Jesus Christ.

Another thing I would say is, “Why not?” Why not try Jesus? I can promise you that if you put as much effort into loving Jesus, as you did with anything else in your life, you will not be disappointed. If you learn to know Him, you will learn to love Him. You will learn that He loved you before you could ever love Him – which is why you were drawn to Him in the first place. So… Why not?
