We knew we were being called to something greater, but we would’ve never guessed in 2004 that this is what God was calling us to.

OUR BACKSTORY

For those of you who don’t know me, I was a drug addict for ten years. I was hopeless, broken, and lost. It wasn’t until I cried on the floor of our trailer that I really found the Lord, at thirty years old.

Through that, I was married and we had two daughters. I was saved a year before my husband was. After he was saved, it was still several months before he truly surrendered everything.

After we both became Christ-followers, we landed in the middle of the local church. We were surrounded by Christ-followers and people who wanted to show us God’s love. They were just doing what they were called to do, but their effortless actions were our lifesaver.

Fast forward a few years and we got involved in the recovery ministry of our church. We loved that ministry and still do to this day. We noticed a pattern though. We would see moms and dads rush in, put their kids in childcare, and be frazzled from running around just trying to be on time. Some didn’t even touch their books since the last class. It broke our hearts because we knew the benefit of being prepared. We knew that they would only get out of it what they put into it. We watched this happen for a while.

We couldn’t help but think, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could walk side by side with a family, just like people did for us.” The Lord separately put on my heart and my husband’s heart a dream to walk side by side with a family and do exactly what others had done for us. We had a dream to show them how to love God with all their hearts, teach parents how to raise their kids, teach them about finances, and what the Bible says about XYZ, etc. After I walked away from addiction, I had people in my path that showed me how to do basic things. I didn’t know how to host or set a table. I didn’t know how to live life and do basic tasks. It was through the people that God put on my path. They helped me on my recovery journey navigate my new life. I wanted to reciprocate that to others that needed it.

In 2013, God opened doors for us to launch Finding the Family. He called us to it, but He’s the one that built it up, He’s the one that set it all in motion, put the right people in place. He did the gathering. We were just faithful and obedient.

We aren’t looking for the people to have it all together. We are looking for people who are just like us 30 years ago. We are on a mission to find the people stuck in a hole, that they feel like they can’t escape. Today, we get to invite these families in for a whole year. We get to teach them how to put God first and the things that stem from loving Him. We teach them that the practical things you do are all based on your love of God, His Word, and His commandments.

Psalm 119 reminds me that his decrees are so good, and I long for those.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

We do this because it’s the heart of God – to help people who are in a place where they’re afraid to be. Honestly, they don’t even know who they are anymore. They haven’t been good parents for a long time because they have struggled with drugs and alcohol. We have a passion for helping people in these situations.

We understand that parents come to the end of themselves when they find out how their addictions have affected their kids. We offer a one-year program that helps these families hit the reset button. They overcome the addiction by allowing God to restore them and their family.

If you or someone you know needs this reset button, apply today!
