PAIGE SNELSON’S SUCCESS STORY

Paige was a single mom desperate to leave addiction behind for the sake of a better life for herself and her son. Her son was in foster care for a few years and even though she did what was asked of her by DFS to get her son back, she struggled staying sober long enough for that to happen.

Before coming to Finding the Family, Paige stayed at Restoration House to receive help for her addiction. When it was time to go home, she was afraid to return to the place where all of her triggers came from. She knew she needed more accountability and structure before returning to life as normal. She came to Finding the Family.

She accomplished so much during her time with us and has overcome a lot. I interviewed Paige for her to share her testimony with you on how she overcame addiction and what led her to where she is today.

INTERVIEWING PAIGE – HER EXPERIENCES

Q: WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT COMING TO FINDING THE FAMILY?

A: The hardest part was the mental battle within my mind. I was so scared to come, but I was even more scared of missing the chance of coming, and what I could be missing out on. I just knew that I wanted something that would help me succeed because I knew that’s what I wanted, but I just couldn’t seem to figure it out without caving in.

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR “AHA-MOMENT?”

A: After I got my son with me, I could really start to heal. I had tried and tried on my own, but I wasn’t happy. There was still something missing. After my son came, I could really let go and just let God. So I guess there wasn’t an exact “aha-moment” it was just a gradual thing. It just got easier to let go and then I learned to trust you guys. When my mind would start to race, I would just remind myself that I’ve learned to trust you guys. I knew I needed to listen and do what you asked me to do because I knew it was best for me even if I didn’t understand it.

Q: YOU HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS BEFORE YOU CAME. HOW HAS THAT EVOLVED OVER THE TIME YOU WERE HERE?
A: My trust and my faith in God just got stronger and I have less doubts in myself. I know if God’s backing me, then I can do all things.

Q: WHAT DOES YOUR FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
A: It’s endless because I’m sure that God has more for me than what I could imagine.

Q: ARE YOU FEARFUL OF THE FUTURE?
A: No. I’m excited. I don’t know what my future looks like, but I know God has something for me and I’m excited to see what it is.

Q: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU WHEN YOU FIRST CAME TO FINDING THE FAMILY?
A: I was afraid you guys were going to judge me. I had to realize that you genuinely wanted to help me and you weren’t trying to hurt me, and sometimes help doesn’t always feel good.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR BIGGEST TAKEAWAY WAS FROM FINDING THE FAMILY?
A: Coping. I have learned to cope. I also learned what a stable family looks like and I know I’m not doing this alone.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT’S AFRAID TO SEEK HELP FOR THEIR ADDICTION?
A: That you should be more scared of what you’re going to miss out on than what you’re leaving behind.

Q: WHAT LIFE DID YOU LEAVE BEHIND?
A: A mess. Before I went to Restoration House, my life was a mess. I was lonely, scared, hopeless, afraid, and pretty empty. I was pretty much surrounded by people that didn’t care if I was alive or dead. I didn’t have my son for two to three years. I tried over and over and over again to get him back and did everything that they wanted me to do two or three times over, but I was still a mess. I couldn’t stay sober or I was an emotional wreck and would fall apart all over again. I could never get there.

Q: WHAT WERE YOUR FEARS AFTER LEAVING RESTORATION HOUSE BECAUSE YOU DID FINE IN THAT PROGRAM?
A: So after the program, I was scared to go back home to the same surroundings that I came from with all the same triggers. So I asked Rebecca, a lady at that program, if she would find me a place where I couldn’t screw up. I wanted somebody to set me up to win, and I didn’t want to lose.

Q: DID YOU EXPECT TO FEEL LIKE YOU WERE LIVING ON YOUR OWN HERE WHILE EXPERIENCING THE STRUCTURE, DIRECTION, AND ACCOUNTABILITY YOU WERE SEEKING?
A: Not at first, but after I got to see the website, I was like “Wow, this is for me!”

To Anyone Fearful of Seeking Help For Addiction

It’s way better to live life like this than what you leave behind. Paige is proof of that. Today, she is out living on her own, unafraid of her future and inseparable with her son because of the mess she left behind. What we leave behind is destruction. You have to much to lose to not seek help.

We understand that parents come to a breaking point when they realize how their addictions have affected their kids. We offer a one-year program that helps families hit the reset button. They overcome the addiction by allowing God to restore them and their family.
